Have you heard the story about King Midas? He was greedy and wished everything he'd touch would turn into gold. You should be careful what you wish for -- you might get it.
When I was a geeky teenager all I could wish for was to become beautiful. I wanted men to adore me, women to stop me in the street asking me about the color of my lipstick.
The night I walked over Manhattan in the borrowed golden shoes I got stopped by a young man who said: "Those shoes are magic."
All I could reply was: "I know."
And life just seemed so dull and predictable.
